In our new series, Staffer Q&A, we sit down with Emma staffers, interview-style, to find out the "who" behind Emma, get a sneak peek into new features and integrations they're working on, and, of course, what they do when they're not at work.
Tell us a little about yourself, Rachel. What do you do at Emma?
I’m the Onboarding Lead here at Emma, which means I work with a team of folks who specialize in getting our newest clients up and running with Emma. We love to work on email strategy with our customers and do everything we can to make sure the newest members of the Emma community start hitting their marketing goals as quickly as possible.

And when you’re not at Emma?
My partner and I recently bought a 100-year-old house, so most of my non-work time is spent obsessing over the renovations and work that we’re doing to the place. It can be a bit overwhelming at times, but it has been such a gratifying journey so far. I’m also an avid knitter, vinyl collector, and reader, so I spend a lot of time surrounded by yarn, records, and books.
What project are you currently working on?
I’m always working to make sure my team’s clients are getting everything need when it comes to account set-up, but one thing that’s new (and that I’m super excited about) is Emma’s customer webinar series that we’ve recently launched and that I’m lucky enough to be a part of.
What about these new webinars is the most exciting to you?
Last month, we hosted our first “Ask Us Anything” webinar. A few of my teammates and I got on the line with over a hundred customers and answered as many questions as we could about email strategy. We’re planning to host these on a monthly basis, and I think that we’re providing a really fun and valuable experience for our customers. Not only do you get to learn a lot about how to improve your own email marketing strategy, but you get a cool glimpse at what I think is so special about Emma, which is the community of folks who work every day to make the best product and provide the best customer experience possible.
Whoa. That’s awesome. Tell us more about how the webinars work.
If you join us on one of these training webinars, you can submit a question when you register, or you can ask one during the webinar. We saw that most folks showed up ready with a question whose answer would leave them with something actionable they could take away. Maybe something new to test, a new automation idea, an idea to update a signup form — it ran the gamut, really. Our training resources — these new webinars included — are meant to set marketers up to do smarter, more successful work. So, I think that attending is a no-brainer.
Read any good books lately?
Ack! This is a really tough question. I immediately thought of three, so I’m just going to go for it. All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert, and H is for Hawk by Helen Macdonald. Just thinking about those books makes me want to read them all over again!
Our readers are dying to know: What’s your spirit animal? Why?
Hmm. My gut answer here is to mention a very specific animal instead of a particular species. My dog, Girl — yes, her name is just Girl — is fifteen years old, and sometimes I feel like our personalities have merged a bit. I’m often told by people who know me well that this is the case, and even though she’s a dog, she’s sweet and empathetic and pretty laid back, so I take that as a compliment.
