We’re deep in the midst of the dog days of summer, and things are getting HOT around here.
No, I’m not just referring to the weather… and get your mind out of the gutter. What I’m talking about are the scorching email designs that have hit our inboxes these past few weeks. I’ve been so impressed, in fact, that I compiled a few of my favorites to show off here on the blog. Grab a cold drink, stand close to an air vent, and soak them in.
Yeah, yeah – this email is long. But we haven’t seen someone do the scroll-til-you-drop email this well in a long time. A few things that catapulted it to the top of our must-share list:
• An extra flattering subject line: “You’re perfect.”
• A numbered list that keeps your eye moving down the email.
• Plenty of social proof
• A final CTA to download an app on mobile devices
2. Kate Spade
Kate always knows how to rock GIFs in email, and this nautical summer send is no different. A bold headline immediately captures your attention, and the generous white space helps the CTAs really pop.
We don’t usually advocate for emails without an attention-grabbing CTA button, but this one from Canva is an exception. We thought it was a clever way to get people to browse their layouts, and the simplicity of the mailing helps keep things crystal clear and focused.
We’ve gotten a LOT of Pokemon-themed emails from brands recently, but this one has been my favorite by far. Rather than awkwardly trying to incorporate something trendy into their existing branding, these guys really went for it and embraced the full aesthetic of the game.
Simple. Powerful. This is how you take something as mundane as a new shirt color and make it feel incredibly compelling to your audience. The moral here? The right imagery can do wonders.
A well-placed GIF adds flair to your product announcement – especially if you can show off an element of the product with the movement it creates. Here, Harry’s shows off their latest and greatest in a way that’s both useful and memorable.
7. Mario Batali
What else says summertime like a delicious boozy milkshake? We love a “how-to” GIF, and Mario’s team did a fabulous job making this one feel extra enticing. Add in some stellar copy, a clean design, and a few content buckets at the bottom, and you have one seriously sweet email.
In one of our favorite promos we’ve seen this summer, Casper offered a free inflatable pool mattress to customers who purchased an actual mattress. The imagery here was on-point, and it provided the perfect seasonal spin for their already fun-loving brand.
What better way to help your audience beat the heat than to give them a sneak peek into what they can expect in the cooler days to come? Plus, copy like “first look” and “VIP” makes this fall email from Madewell feel super exclusive.
Bonus: Richard Branson for Virgin
I’m going to just be honest here.... Richard Branson can sometimes be a ridiculous human being.
But there is something to be said for the man’s marketing skills: When he goes for something, he really goes for it, from Virgin Brides to rappelling in Vegas. So I couldn’t help but bookmark this pirate-themed giveaway Virgin sent out earlier this month. After all, who else would pose for THAT hero image or dream up the preheader text, “Yo ho ho ho me hearties”?
Any scorching summer sends we missed? Share away in the comments!
